Ratanakosin, The Historical Center of Bangkok

The historical center of Bangkok is located at Ratanakosin. Here you can discover the various historical buildings and temples such as the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, Emerald Buddha, Wat Pho and Wat Pho, the Reclining Buddha.
Other historical sites found in the Ratanakosin area include Sanam Luang, Lak Muang, and statues of white pachyderms.

Lak Muang, Bangkok

On the corner of Sanam Chai and Na Phralan roads, on the opposite side from the Grand Palace, is the Lak Muang, or city shrine.

This small pavilion houses the stone pillar which Rama I erected as the city's foundation stone. Home of Bangkok's guardian spirit, the shrine is deeply respected and believed a source of good fortune.
