Kuala Terengganu is the capital of Terengganu and Kuala Besut is the main port where ferries depart for Perhentian Islands.
If you plan to travel to Kapas Island, then there are ferries departing from Marang.
For ferries to Redang island, Merang is the port of departure.
Travel To Terengganu
Almost all the visitors travelling to the Perhentian Islands skip the other parts of Terengganu. They usually transit via Kota Bharu which is located at the neighbouring state of Kelantan.
This is due to the better connections by both air and train which Kota Bharu offers and the journey only take abour 1 hour.
Travel By Bus To Kuala Terengganu
If you want to go to Kuala Terengganu or other locations in Terengganu state, then the main north-south highway is widely used and easily accessbile for long distance buses from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and other cities in Peninsular Malaysia.

Flights To Kuala Terengganu
If you intend to take a flight to Kuala Terengganu, then Kuala Terengganu's own Sultan Mahmud Airport (TGG) does offer several flights daily from Kuala Lumpur and also twice daily from Penang.

From the airport, it will take about 2 hour drive to go to Kuala Besut before taking a ferry or speed boat to the Perhentian islands.
