Some interesting landmarks can be found at some sites such as the Astana (the Rajah's former palace), Fort Margherita, Tua Pek Kong temple and The Main Bazaar.
The Kuching waterfront is a riverside esplanade and is located right next to all the major hotels and business and commercial centre. The esplanade offers pleasant walk in the evening.
There are a few other interesting places of interest nearby such as the Chinatown area at Padungan Street, the Carpenter Street and India Street.
All these area still maintain their historic charm and offer fascinating insights into life back then (some 20 years ago),though the relentless process of globalisation is slowly encroaching.
The old Courthouse building forms the link between Carpenter Street and India Street, and is worthy of a fast stroll to witness the faded colonial splendour (now restored and modernised).
There are also numerous well-manicured parks surrounding the city which are great places to visit.
