NA PALI COAST, HI
CLIFFS TO EDEN
On the northwest side of Kauai lies one of the world’s finest weekend trios; the Na Pall Coast. From the trailhead next to Ke’e Beach, ascend the wide and muddy 8.4-mi!e Kalalau Trail to Hanakaplal Beach. Rock-hop across the Hanakaplal River, and leave most dayhikers behind as you switchback through palm-laced forests. The trail narrows and hugs the mountainside as you roll to Hanakoa Valley and its campground. On the remaining four miles to Kalalau Beach, you’ll traverse a cliff edge that’s too narrow to plant a trekking pole. Then you’ll drop Into the Kalalau Valley, a giant amphitheater flanked by cliffs and an idyllic, mile-long crescent of beachfront. Pitch a tent in the trees or on the sand.
