The Perhentian Islands (Pulau Perhentian)
The Perhentian Islands (Pulau Perhentian) is about 20 km offshore of Terengganu, the North Eastern state of Peninsular Malaysia. There are 2 main islands consisting of Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil, both wholly
owned by The Pulau Redang National Marine Park.

Both the islands have white sandy beaches and the coral reefs and crystal clear waters are filled with many variesties of coral, sea turtles, tiny sharks, reef fish and many more underwater species.
The main tourist activities on the island include sunbathing, snorkelling, scuba diving and turtle and shark-watching.
You may travel to Redang Island which is not far from Perhentian Island. The travelling by boat will take around 2 hours.
How To Travel To Perhentian Islands?
There is only 1 way to travel to the Islands. That is by boat from the fishing village of Kuala Besut in Terengganu. There are daily speed boat operations (several times per day) run by local tourist operators.
Best Time To Go and When Not To Go Perhentian?
As the area is affected directly by the Eastern Monsoon, you can only enjoy the Perhentians between the period of April to October. Outside this period, most of the resort accommodations on
the islands are closed as the seas can be very rough and dangerous.

The Best of Diving Sites off the Islands
There are more than 10 dive sites and 2 ship wrecks at Perhentian Island. You may dive on the slopes of the reefs except at the ship wrecks. During the dive you may see an abundant variety of marine life. The water temperature is between 25-30 degree celsius depending on the depth (open sea water dive) and season.
