symbol of peace and friendship.
Giant Pandas Considered An Endangered Species - Protection and Nature Reserves
Owing to the damage the productive activities of mankind have brought to the natural and ecological environment, their life has met with great threats. Today
there are only less than 1,000 wild giant pandas, mainly scattering in China's Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces.
In order to protect and rescue them, China has established special nature reserves in their habitats.
The first five such nature reserves were established in 1963. Up to now more than 30 such nature reserves have been established in China with a total area of 10,550
square kilometres or 81.2 percent of the actual living areas of giant pandas.
Concentrated in the subtropical areas at the juncture of Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces, these nature resreves are centers for protecting and studying giant pandas.
