Africa is the world's second-largest continent after Asia. It is also the second most-populous continent in the world. By covering 60% of the Earth's total surface area, the large continent has more than 900,000,000 people and accounts for about 14% of the world's human population.
The Mediterranean Sea lies to the north of Africa while the Suez Canal and the Red Sea lies to the northeast. The Indian Ocean lies to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
